On November 9, the Casco History Lab invites you to Rooted in Sovereignty: Indigenous Perspectives on Food and Land from Maine to Nunavut, a special panel featuring Inuit actor, producer and emerging director Malaya Qaunirq Chapman, known for her role as Auntie Eva in Netflix’s North of North, and award-winning Penobscot artist and knowledge keeper Jennifer Sapiel Neptune.

Together, they’ll explore Indigenous perspectives on food sovereignty, land-based knowledge and cultural traditions across Wabanaki and Inuit homelands.
Presented by Wolfe’s Neck Center’s Casco History Lab in collaboration with Bowdoin College’s Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum, this event is part of The Land Remembers, a Maine Humanities-funded project that includes our Seven Sisters Garden. Co-created by Jennifer Neptune, the garden supports efforts to restore Wabanaki connections to the land.
This is a free opportunity to learn from Indigenous voices and deepen our understanding of the relationships between land, history, food and culture.
